PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is the 3M™ Premium Mold and Tooling Compound, 06027?

The 3M™ Premium Mold and Tooling Compound, 06027, is a two-part urethane resin system for creating high-quality molds or prototypes.

  2. How does it work?

It works by mixing equal parts of the A component and B component together to form a viscous liquid that can be poured into a mold or used for tool making. The compound has excellent wetting properties which reduce air entrapment within critical detail areas.

  3. What are some of the features and benefits of this product?

Some of the key features include low shrinkage rates, heat resistance up to 250°F (121°C), good toughness & flexibility with excellent elongation when cured. It can also be sanded or machined easily after curing for fast finishing times.

  4. Can this product withstand multiple pours without compromising quality?

: Yes! In fact, one of its unique attributes is that you can use it repeatedly without affecting its strength or durability.

  5. : Is protective gear required while handling this material?

: Although it’s best practice to wear gloves while working with any chemicals -- especially those involving resins-- they are not mandatory in case you mistakingly skip them because we prioritize our customer's safety as well as help minimize health risks associated with exposure during normal use

Eliminate Sanding Scratches

3M Premium Mold and Tooling Compound is the perfect solution to get rid of those pesky scratches that result from sanding. This compound is designed to cut quickly and leave a fine finish that can be easily polished to a high gloss. For best results, 3M recommends using 3M™ Finesse-It™ II Finishing Material (PN 09048) to achieve a clean, high gloss finish.

Special Formula for Tooling Gel Coats

When it comes to tooling gelcoats, 3M Premium Mold and Tooling Compound is the recommended choice. Tooling gelcoats have different properties than regular gelcoats, as they are typically harder and used for applications where no flexing will occur. These gelcoats are ideal for molds that will not flex but will be polished to a high luster.

3M Science Provides the Solution

3M's team of scientists formulated this compound specifically to work with the hard surface of a tooling gelcoat. This results in a smooth surface that can be polished to a mirror-like high gloss, eliminating the fine scratches that come from sanding.
