Scotch-Brite Metal Finishing Wheel combines conformability with consistent abrasive cutting action to provide uniform brushed stainless and satin finishes. The Metal Finishing Wheel is also used effectively to blend and match #3 or #4 mill finishes on stainless steel and to create brushed or satin finishes on items such as cutlery, appliance trim, builders hardware, and plumbing fixtures.

  • High conformability and uniform wear provides consistent cutting power to produce superior satin, mill and brushed finishes
  • Open-web construction resists loading and runs cool to provide professional results on stainless steel, brass, aluminum and other metals
  • Controlled abrasive action helps prevent undercutting or gouging
  • Highly conformable wheel effectively finishes irregular or contoured surfaces
  • Convolute construction wound around a fiber core runs smooth to provide fine, uniform finishing

PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is the Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel?

The Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel, MF-WL, 5A Coarse, 14 in x 3 in x 8 in, 1 ea/Case is a wheel designed for use on bench-mounted tools or automated equipment. It's used to remove scratches and surface defects from metal surfaces while leaving a brushed finish on stainless steel.

  2. How does it work?

With its tough aluminum oxide abrasive particles bonded to a durable open web material, this wheel offers consistent results without sacrificing its long life. Its conformable nature allows the wheel access hard-to-reach areas of parts and produce fuller coverage when making contact with the metal surfaces.

  3. For what metals can I use this finishing wheel?

You can use this finishing wheel for various types of metals such as carbon steels; titanium alloys that are heat-sensitive; copper alloys; brasses and bronzes (brasses contain zinc); nickel-based alloys (monel®) ; stainless-steel alloys, including superalloys containing chromium/nickel/ cobalt content like Inconel®, Hastelloy®, etc.

  4. Can these wheels be re-used?

The scotch brite mnetal finishing wheels are non-woven abrasive products which undergo wear out over time due to continuous usage so they cannot be reused but you can remove stubborn residues by washing them before eventual disposal.

Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel is a highly conformable wheel that is convolutely wound on a core to run smoothly and help create professional finishing results. It is used on softer metals like aluminum, copper, and brass to blend out minor surface imperfections and handling marks while providing the desired decorative finish on products such as builder's hardware and plumbing fixtures. Typically used on stationary machinery, the wheels are available in diameters of 6 to 16 inches and widths of 1/2 inch and greater. This product is available in grade CRS and MED.

The wheel uses aluminum oxide abrasive, which is widely used in grinding applications due to its high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention. Aluminum oxide is suitable on a wide variety of substrates in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys.

Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives are unique surface conditioning products with abrasives incorporated into non-woven nylon or synthetic fibers. Combining abrasives with the fibers creates an abrasive system that delivers consistent results for the life of the product. The open-web material runs cool and is load resistant, which keeps the abrasive minerals cutting at high performance by limiting clogging of the fibers.
