The fastener has flexible J-shaped hooks, with about 300 hooks per square inch (46 hooks/square cm.), protruding from a woven backing. It is commonly used with 3M™ Plasticizer Resistant Loop Fastener SJ3523 and can also engage with other 3M™ Loop Fasteners. Both the hook and the corresponding loop are preshrunk to ensure stability and flatness.

The backing of 3M™ Plasticizer Resistant Hook Fastener SJ3522 is coated with a plasticizer resistant acrylic-based pressure sensitive adhesive.
