PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP460 used for?

This adhesive is a two-part epoxy that is excellent for bonding metals, plastics, and other composite materials. It's commonly used in general industrial applications where high strength and durability are required.

  2. Does the adhesive come in different colors or sizes?

The off-white color of this epoxy offers good visibility during the mixing process, but it only comes in the form of quart kits. However, we do offer other formulations of Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive in various sizes and colors to meet your specific needs.

  3. How long does it take to cure?

At room temperature (72°F/22°C), DP460 will reach handling strength in approximately five hours and achieve full cure within seven days. Lower temperatures will slow down the curing process while higher temperatures can speed it up.

  4. How many kits are included per case?

There are six quarts per case of 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP460 Part B/A Off-White Kits, making this an economical solution for larger-scale industrial projects or multiple applications.

High Peel and Shear Strength for Strong Bonds in Critical Applications

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP460 exhibits excellent shear and peel strength along with good impact durability. It bonds to many surfaces, such as ceramics, metals, glass, wood and some plastics. When it comes to preparation and application, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP460 is straightforward and easy-to-use. Simply mix the components with a 2:1 by volume mix ratio and then apply according to the instructions to achieve a strong, long-lasting bond. The components are easy to mix and the 60 minute work life means users have ample time to re-position the bonding surfaces before a durable, long-lasting bond is achieved. For easier mixing and application, use 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ EPX™ Plus II applicators with a duo-pak cartridge. UL-HB Certified, ASTM E162, ASTM E662, Bombardier SMP 800C, Boeing BSS 7239.

Understanding Epoxy Adhesives

Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate and others. Epoxies are formulated as liquid reactive polymers that undergo a chemical reaction when mixed and then cure to form a solid plastic material. Once the two parts are mixed in their specified ratio, they begin the curing process and offer a limited working time where the adhesive can be applied and the two surfaces positioned as needed. This work life lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. These structural adhesives provide high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula, and better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives. In general, epoxy adhesives have the highest overall strength and offer the best performance and most resistance to high temperatures, solvents and outdoor weathering.

Epoxy adhesive (often referred to as epoxy glue) is widely used in building and home construction; aircraft and automobile manufacturing; bicycle, boat, golf clubs, ski and snowboard assembly as well as a host of home use and other applications. It is used virtually anywhere high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. These adhesives are popular for their ease of use, mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Formulations can be created to make epoxy for plastic flexible or epoxy for metal rigid, epoxy resin transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting. The versatility with which these adhesives can be formulated helps meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone and various plastics.
