Getting You Started

The 3M™ Roto Peen Assembly Kit provides all the necessary parts to complete peening tasks on a variety of sizes, geometries, and applications. This kit is especially useful in the aerospace industry, where large, stationary equipment is not always available. When combined with the correct tools, the 3M™ Roto Peen Assembly Kit can help with peening after grinding, before plating, forming and straightening, bond testing, and more.

Captive Shot Peening

Captive shot peening is a popular method used in the aerospace industry for production, maintenance, and repair. This process involves hurling shot against metal, similar to a small hammer, to impart residual compressive stress into the surface of the metal. This compressive surface stress strengthens the material, improving its resistance to fatigue fracture and stress corrosion cracking. Captive shot peening is a quick, portable, and cost-effective method for aerospace production and repair.

High Quality Construction

The 3M™ Roto Peen Assembly Kit is constructed with durable tungsten carbide shot adhered to flexible polymeric flaps using high-strength resin. This construction helps resist damage and heat from consistent use. The flaps are secured by a mandrel designed specifically for this application. The flap/mandrel assembly can then be placed in the collet of a rotary tool designed to run at the appropriate RPM for the needed intensity.
