The Standard Abrasive™ Cleaning Disc 840701 is made up of non-woven nylon fibers that are coated with abrasive grains.

  2. Can I use this cleaning disc for metal surfaces as well?

Yes, you can. The Standard Abrasives™ Cleaning Disc 840701 can be used on various surfaces like metals, composites and even wood.

  3. How does this disc compare to other traditional cleaning products?

This cleaning disc offers a faster and more consistent way of removing rust or paint from metal surfaces without causing any further damage to them.

  4. Is there any difference between the outer and inner cases in which these discs come bundled together?

No, there isn't any significant difference between them except for the quantity contained -- an outer case has 50 inner cases while each inner case comes with five discs.

  5. To what extent would I need to use a backing pad along with this disc?

Silicon Carbide Abrasive

The Standard Abrasives™ Cleaning Disc is made of large nylon filament and coarse silicon carbide grain, which allows for the quick removal of surface contaminants. Silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral that is commonly used in low-pressure applications such as paint prep. Although the mineral breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a finer finish. As a result, the Standard Abrasives™ Cleaning Disc is best suited for sanding and finishing applications on fiberglass, composites, or soft metals.

Open Coat Construction

Abrasives are more effective and last longer when dust does not clog the cutting surface. Open coat construction refers to the placement of abrasive grains with space between them to help remove sanding debris and prevent clogging of the grains' cutting edges. Furthermore, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this results in increased productivity and reduced material consumption.
