Scotch High Temperature Masking Tape 214 was designed specifically to be one of the few tapes that can be used on copper, silver and other metals. The heavy crepe paper backing is treated to provide excellent stain resistance, and the adhesive can be used on most treated metals due to the firmness of its adhesive. This tape has proven to not tarnish copper or brass, or stain metals.
- Exceptional non-staining performance on copper, silver and other metals
- High temperature resistance for paint-bake applications
- Synthetic rubber adhesive has moderate adhesion and high heat resistance
- Crepe paper backing provides easy hand tearing

PRODUCT FAQ
-
What surfaces can I use Scotch® High Performance Masking Tape 214 on?
This tape works great on a variety of surfaces including painted walls, wood, glass, and metal. It's designed to adhere well while still removing cleanly without leaving residue behind.
-
How long can I leave this tape on before it needs to be removed?
Scotch® High Performance Masking Tape 214 can be left on for up to 14 days indoors. For best results and cleanest removal, we recommend taking it off within that timeframe.
-
Will this tape damage my paint when I remove it?
No, this tape is specifically formulated to remove cleanly without peeling off paint or damaging surfaces. Just be sure to remove it within the recommended 14-day window for optimal results.
-
What's the difference between this tan color and other masking tape options?
The tan color blends in nicely with many surfaces, making it less visible during your project. Beyond aesthetics, this High Performance line offers superior adhesion and clean removal compared to standard masking tapes.
-
How many rolls do I get in each case?
Each case contains 60 rolls of tape, and each roll is 5/8 inch wide by 60 yards long, giving you plenty of tape for multiple projects or to keep on hand for your business needs.
The Scotch® High Temperature Masking Tape 214 is specifically engineered to deliver exceptional results when working with heat-sensitive applications and delicate surfaces. This specialized tape has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in protecting stain-sensitive substrates, including copper, silver, and other precious or easily-marked metals, as well as white paints and other vulnerable finishes. The tape maintains its protective qualities throughout demanding bake cycles, reliably withstanding temperatures up to 350°F (177°C) for extended periods of 30 minutes, after which it cleanly separates from the surface without leaving adhesive residue or causing damage.
The construction of this masking tape features a crepe paper backing that combines easy hand-tearability with moderate conformability, allowing it to adapt to both flat and curved surfaces with minimal effort. The synthetic rubber-based adhesive system has been formulated to establish strong bonds across diverse substrates including paper, metallic surfaces, wood, and painted finishes, effectively resisting lifting, curling, and edge separation during application and curing processes. Under standard operating conditions, the tape achieves clean, single-piece removal and demonstrates excellent resistance to silvering, a common defect where tape edges separate from the surface.
Recommended Applications- Applications requiring protection of sensitive and delicate metal surfaces
- Industrial processes involving high temperature bake cycles and thermal exposure
Masking tape represents a critical innovation in surface protection, originally developed to shield surrounding areas from paint overspray while establishing crisp, well-defined paint lines and edges. 3M's masking tape formulations are specifically designed to provide strong adhesion, maintain resistance to paint solvents and water-based solutions, and deliver sufficient strength to support and secure plastic sheeting and protective barriers. Simultaneously, these tapes are engineered for gentle removal that preserves the integrity of underlying surfaces, avoiding damage, residue, or discoloration. The crepe paper backing construction allows the tape to conform naturally to curved and irregular surface contours, while the hand-tear capability enables quick application without requiring cutting tools or equipment.
