3M Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 is a vibration and noise reduction material provided in sheets for excellent per-pound cost ratios. Open cell polyurethane foam with an aluminum-urethane constraining layer absorbs panel vibration and dissipates it to negligible heat, reducing resonant noise and fatigue. Pressure-sensitive adhesive and easy-release liner make for fast, smooth application.

  • Sheets make for excellent per-pound installed cost ratios on larger jobs
  • Absorbs and dissipates vibration and reduces noise in metal and plastic panels
  • Durable aluminum backing resists aging and moisture
  • 250 mil open cell polyurethane foam absorbs and attenuates vibration
  • Acrylic adhesive aggressively bonds to structural surfaces
  • Easy to apply – only hand pressure required

PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What are the dimensions of 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheets 4014, Silver, 12 in x 48 in, and how many sheets are included per pack?

The dimensions of each sheet is 12 in x 48 in with a thickness of 250 mil. One case comes with one pack that contains a total of twenty-five sheets.

  2. What noise reduction capabilities does this foam sheet possess?

This aluminum foam sheet has efficient noise reduction properties due to its unique construction that absorbs vibrations produced by machinery or other sources.

  3. How long can we expect these damping sheets to last once installed?

These aluminum foam sheets have excellent durability and will provide long-lasting protection from vibration and related wear-and-tear on machinery; however, their lifespan depends entirely on usage conditions like temperature, humidity etc

  4. :Is the installation process for this product time-consuming or complicated ?

:The installation process for our damping aluminum foam sheets is very simple as they approximately take minute to install over surface protecting the surface against both mechanical stress impacts.

Sound and Vibration Damping in Sheet Form

Sized for applications with larger damping areas, 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 attenuates and reduces the resonant sound and vibration in thin sheet metal, plastic panels and support structures. It features a 250 mil open cell polyurethane foam with a 3.0 mil aluminum-urethane backing. The strong, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive allows for quick and easy application to the vibrating component, requiring only finger pressure to establish a lasting bond. The foam absorbs the vibration, or "strain energy," and together with the backing dissipates it into a small amount of heat. This function reduces continuous vibration through attenuation, which reduces noise and decreases metal fatigue during everyday wear. It also limits vibration caused by impact, helping components remain strong and stable over time. This product meets F.A.R. 25.853(b).

Recommended Applications
  • Larger-scale jobs where cost-per-pound ratios are important
  • Reduce resonant noise, vibration and fatigue in metal panels and support structures
  • Applications requiring flame resistance, thermal conductance or resistance to low temps
  • Chutes, conveyors, bins, metal shop boxes and tables where metal contact causes vibration
  • General noise reduction
  • Die cutting aluminum foil parts for aerospace applications - F.A.R. 25.853(b)

3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 provides good thermal insulation and is tested to perform at temperatures as low as -94°F (-70°C). It also delivers excellent resistance to moisture, aging, and fatigue.

The Sound Science of Damping from 3M

Since 1925 when a 3M lab assistant invented masking tape, 3M has been applying science to life – developing adhesive products and technologies that help entire industries and individual businesses worldwide. This applies especially to damping products like 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 – delivering the science behind vibration and sound reduction to help businesses operate faster, better, and more efficiently.
