It is widely used in the aerospace industry for deburring and finishing turbine blades and vanes, polishing and blending surgical instruments, and deburring aluminum die-cast flashing, among other uses.

SST wheels use fine grade silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives. Silicon carbide is a sharp, hard synthetic abrasive that is ideal for cutting hard materials. Aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral with a high cut-rate and long life. While silicon carbide breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a finer finish.
