Cut to Custom Size or Shape for Hand Sanding or Tool Attachment

The Standard Abrasives Unitized Block - 600 Series is a versatile abrasive product that can be cut to custom sizes or shapes for hand finishing or refining. It is especially useful for specialty applications where intricate or unique workpieces require a specific shape to achieve the desired result. Once the material is cut and shaped, it can be attached to a tool using a unitized wheel mandrel (sold separately).

If you require a standard wheel shape, the Standard Abrasives line offers the Series 600 Unitized Wheels, which are available with a center hole or quick change attachment (sold separately).

Soft to Medium Density Material Offers Multi-Purpose Utility

The Standard Abrasives 600 Series Unitized Block has a soft to medium density compared to other products in the Standard Abrasives Unitized Block line. It is designed with increased durability over the 500 Series wheels. Made with fine grade mineral, this double-duty abrasive combines durability with a fine scratch pattern, making it ideal for projects that require an aggressive cut yet a soft finish. It is particularly suitable for tough blending and polishing applications.

Use the Standard Abrasives Unitized Block - 600 Series in aluminum oxide for blending and refining surfaces of jet blade airfoil, blending parting lines from cast turbine blades and vanes, blending stainless steel surgical instruments, mill marks and machine mismatches, and removing minor pits, scratches, resins/adhesive overspray, coating, and plastic mold flashing.

For polishing, the Standard Abrasives 600 Series Unitized Block with silicon carbide is a reliable choice. It is effective for polishing fillet areas on jet blades and aircraft parts, polishing after weld removal, and polishing mold and die, cast aluminum, brass, and copper. It is also suitable for finishing surgical instruments and prosthetics.

Thanks to its conformability, this material is excellent for projects with strict tolerances. It can respond to surface irregularities without causing gouging or undercutting of the part.

Non-Woven Unitized Construction Offers a Step Up in Density and Durability for Stubborn Surfaces

Standard Abrasives Unitized Blocks are available in various densities and grades to suit different metals, the required level of aggressiveness, and desired finish. While they can be used for similar tasks as Standard Abrasives Buff and Blend products, unitized blocks are designed with a stronger and denser construction to support more aggressive applications and achieve rapid material removal. They are particularly effective for tough deburring, cleaning, blending, and finishing applications.

Despite their stiffer construction, unitized blocks maintain the advantage of responding to surface irregularities while preserving the geometry of the piece, resulting in a consistent finish. They are created by stacking layers of open web material that combines non-woven fiber strands and abrasive mineral with a tough resin bond. These layers are then cured and compressed together with heat, providing the abrasive with increased toughness and durability to withstand repeated wear.

The material's durability makes it particularly suitable for edgework. It can perform high-pressure edgework without tearing or disintegrating. Regardless of the block's thickness, it maintains its structural integrity, remaining a stiff and long-lasting abrasive even under high pressure. As the layers wear, the material can be dressed to refresh its shape.

Load-Resistant Construction Boosts Life and Performance

Standard Abrasives Unitized Blocks are load-resistant, ensuring that the mineral stays fresh and sharp for longer. The gaps in the open web allow unwanted swarf to escape, preventing debris from clogging the abrasive. This allows the mineral to stay fresh, deliver a consistent cut, and reduce the likelihood of dull or blunt mineral smearing the surface. As the fibers break down and fresh mineral is exposed, it contributes to cleaner surfaces and less re-work. Additionally, the reduced manual fatigue from applying heavy pressure to a dull abrasive enhances operator comfort.

The Many Benefits of Standard Abrasives Non-Woven Products

Standard Abrasives Unitized products offer numerous benefits for heavy-duty jobs. They help operators reduce finishing steps, minimize costs, and achieve greater throughput in deburring, cleaning, blending, and finishing applications. With their durability, versatility, and consistent performance, Standard Abrasives Unitized products are a reliable choice for various industrial applications.
