FE Construction for Edge Work, High Contact Pressure and Stock Removal

Introducing the Standard Abrasives Surface Conditioning FE Belt, a highly efficient and durable solution for edge work, high contact pressure, and stock removal. This belt features a compact structure of non-woven fibers, specifically designed to provide both high initial and extended rates of cut while maintaining edge durability. Constructed with resin-reinforced, non-woven fiber, the FE belt is aggressive yet minimizes under-cutting or gouging of the workpiece. Among the Standard Abrasives line of surface conditioning belts, the FE belt stands out as the best performer on edges.

FE Material: Tough, Flexible, and Long-lasting

The FE belts are made of a tough yet flexible nylon mesh that conforms to any contoured surface. To enhance its strength and durability, we have embedded a woven fabric (scrim) within the nylon structure. This unique design extends the life of the belt and allows for extended use on ferrous materials or steel. When high contact pressure and stock removal are required, and loading is not a concern, the FE belt is the ideal surface conditioning material to use.

The Outstanding Performance of Surface Conditioning Material

Surface conditioning products, including the FE belt, are constructed with a non-woven structure consisting of fiber strands, resin, and abrasive mineral. This thick, open web or mesh design allows the fibers to respond to contours effectively, removing unwanted burrs, soils, and contaminants while maintaining the geometry of the workpiece. This reduces the need for rework and boosts productivity. The gaps in the web also allow heat and swarf to escape, prolonging the performance of the abrasive. Additionally, the fibers in the web continually break down with use, revealing fresh mineral for exceptional consistency, superior cut performance, and an extremely long service life.

Aluminum Oxide for Ferrous Metals and Composites

The FE belt is overlaid with aluminum oxide abrasive, making it an excellent choice for operators seeking all-purpose versatility and economy. The mineral cuts fast while blending and deburring, making it suitable for applications on ferrous metals and composites. The FE belts feature a premium grain with higher fracture strength, ensuring that the mineral fragments and renews more readily. They are available in grades of Very Fine (VFN), Medium (MED), and Coarse (CRS).

Recommended Applications

The Surface Conditioning FE Belt is available in various widths and lengths, making it suitable for use on pneumatic sanders, portable belt sanders, backstand equipment, and floor mounted/platen sanders. Its thick coating of resin makes it ideal for material removal where loading is not an issue. Choose this belt for deburring tasks such as removing large and micro burrs, edge radiusing, and removing die cast flashings. It is also effective for blending applications, including removing mill marks, tool marks, and mismatches, reducing uneven edges between adjoining surfaces, reorienting surface scratch patterns, and creating a smooth transition from one surface profile to another.
