Scotch Solvent Resistant Masking Tape 226 is a black polyethylene film laminated over saturated crepe paper that has excellent resistance against a wide range of damaging chemicals. The polyethylene backing is resistant to many solvents, water solutions and emulsions and paint strippers of the wax-base type and the mild caustic solution solvent-emulsion type.

  • HIGH-STRENGTH BACKING: Polyethylene laminated over saturated crepe paper tape offers excellent chemical resistance
  • SOLVENT RESISTANT: Helps protect surfaces from many solvent and water based solutions
  • VERSATILE ADHESIVE: High tack rubber adhesive sticks and seals across a variety of surfaces
  • CLEAN REMOVAL: Removes cleanly from most opaque surfaces for up to three months of outdoor exposure
  • USER FRIENDLY: Tearable backing and fast-bonding adhesive make this tape easy to work with.

PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What makes Scotch® Solvent Resistant Masking Tape 226 different from regular masking tape?

Great question! This tape is specifically designed to resist solvents, which means it won't break down or lose its adhesive strength when exposed to chemicals, thinners, or other solvent-based products. That makes it ideal for automotive painting, refinishing, and industrial applications where regular masking tape just wouldn't hold up.

  2. How long is the roll and will one case be enough for my project?

Each roll is 60 yards long and 16 inches wide, and you're getting 10 rolls per case. That gives you 600 total yards to work with, which should handle most standard masking jobs. If you need more, we're happy to get you additional cases!

  3. Can I use this tape on curved or uneven surfaces?

Absolutely! The 10.6 mil thickness gives it excellent flexibility, so it conforms really well to curves, corners, and textured surfaces. You'll get clean, sharp paint lines even on irregular shapes, which is why so many professionals trust this product for their detail work.

Scotch® Solvent Resistant Masking Tape 226

Scotch® Solvent Resistant Masking Tape 226 is engineered to deliver dependable performance in demanding industrial applications. This specialized masking solution demonstrates exceptional durability, maintaining its protective capabilities for extended periods of up to three months when applied to most standard surfaces. The tape is formulated to withstand elevated temperatures, offering heat resistance up to 225°F (107°C) for continuous exposure during 30-minute baking cycles, making it suitable for processes requiring thermal stability.

The tape's adhesive system utilizes natural rubber formulation, which provides rapid initial adhesion upon application while maintaining reliable holding strength throughout the masking period. A key distinguishing feature is the tape's ability to be removed cleanly and completely from surfaces without leaving residual adhesive marks or causing substrate damage. The material construction incorporates controlled stretch and tear characteristics, which facilitate intuitive handling during installation and contribute to consistent performance across various application scenarios.

Recommended Applications
  • Sealing and protection of metal, plastic, and painted surfaces during manufacturing and finishing processes
  • Masking operations involving both solvent-based and water-based coating solutions in aerospace manufacturing and assembly
  • Hot air leveling procedures for printed circuit board production and electronics manufacturing
Understanding Masking Tape Technology

Masking tape represents a specialized category of pressure-sensitive tape developed to address critical protection requirements in finishing and coating operations. These tapes function by creating barriers that shield adjacent surfaces from overspray and coating application, while simultaneously establishing crisp, well-defined paint lines and demarcation boundaries. Upon completion of the coating or finishing process, quality masking tapes remove without residue or surface degradation. 3M's masking tape portfolio is specifically formulated to provide superior adhesion characteristics while simultaneously resisting penetration from solvent-based and water-based paint formulations. The tapes combine sufficient tensile strength to support suspended plastic sheeting and protective barriers, yet maintain the capability for clean removal without subsurface damage. The backing material, typically constructed from crepe paper, possesses inherent conformability properties that allow the tape to adapt smoothly to curved contours and irregular surface topographies. The hand-tear capability eliminates the need for cutting implements, allowing field workers to apply the tape efficiently without additional tools.
