PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is 3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 used for?

3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 is a high temperature, solvent-resistant tape that's ideal for masking and sealing in aerospace, automotive, and other demanding industries. It provides heat reflection and thermal conductivity to help dissipate heat.

  2. Can this tape be used on irregular surfaces?

Yes! The conformable backing of the foil tape conforms well to irregular surfaces, making it great for applications such as patching or sealing aluminum insulation jackets or joining dissimilar metals together.

  3. How long can I expect this tape to last once applied?

When applied correctly, you can count on long-lasting performance from our Aluminum Foil Tape 425. In most cases, the adhesive bond will remain stable for at least one year when stored under recommended conditions.

Withstands Exposure to High Heat and Humidity

3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 is made up of a thermally conductive aluminum backing that is dead soft. This backing helps to dissipate heat over the surface of the tape, reducing hot spots and protecting the substrate from the effects of high temperatures. The tape is coated with a highly engineered acrylic adhesive that can withstand exposure to high heat (up to 300°F/149°C) and humidity while maintaining a strong and reliable bond. It can also withstand a variety of moisture, weathering, UV, and solvents, making it an excellent choice for indoor or outdoor use.

Recommended Applications
  • Heat shielding of delicate parts
  • Heat reflecting
  • Masking in chemical paint stripping applications
  • Moisture barrier
  • Light reflecting for light enhancement
  • Chemical milling
  • Seaming and sealing
  • Refrigerator and freezer coil attachment
  • Splicing of thin gauge foils
  • Plastic protection

3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 is UL Recognized to UL 746C (File E 122798) and Classified by UL to UL 723 "L" for low flammability rating (File R 7311). It can be certified to meet L-T-80C and meets F.A.R 25.853(a). The temperature use range is from -65°F to 300°F (-54°C to 149°C).
