Why should I choose the P180 grit size option for my sanding needs versus other options?
We recommend using P180 grit to prepare your surface optimally before painting or coating applications. This grit size extends tool life as it requires less frequent change-outs compared to lower-grade counterparts while leaving behind an ideal scratch pattern optimized for final paint preparation.
The 3M™ Hookit™ Clean Sanding Film Disc 375L is a durable and flexible disc that provides a consistent finish on a variety of substrates. It is tear-resistant and comes in a variety of grades to meet user needs. The disc is ideal for industrial applications that require coarse grades.
For woodworking applications, the 375L in medium grades is perfect for creating a surface that accepts the final finish. It contours to challenging work surfaces and delivers a superior finish. The load-resistant coating extends abrasive life. For paint finishing applications, the 375L is designed to deliver a uniform finish on plastics and clear coat technologies commonly used in the transportation industry. The durable film backing and premium mineral extend the abrasive life and help improve overall productivity.
Open Coat Construction Reduces Likelihood of LoadingThe open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat mineral of the same grade. The load-resistant coating reduces clogging, making this a good choice for woodworking and other applications where loading hinders performance. It is resin-bonded for reliable performance under high heat and pressure.
The abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate sawdust and other sanding debris, which prevents clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating also allows the film to continue cutting even when sanding soft woods, paints, and other materials that would otherwise clog and hinder sanding ability. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption.
The Benefits of Film BackingFilm-backings offer superb tear resistance and a consistent finish, making them an excellent option when working on paint, e-coats, primers, gel coats, glass, acrylics, wood, and solid surface material. Film is the best choice when you need the perfect finish every time.
The Hookit™ AdvantageThe 3M™ Hookit™ hook-and-loop feature makes disc attachment, removal, and re-attachment easy and facilitates use and re-use of the disc for the extent of the abrasive life. Hookit disc pads have J-shaped hooks of the type most commonly used in everyday hook-and-loop applications. Hookit disc pads grip the brushed nylon loop backings of Hookit discs and provide a finer finish than do adhesive backed discs. The Hookit system is designed for workspaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris. This disc pad can also be used with hook-and-loop discs from other manufacturers.
