The standard shelf life of this potting compound is two years from the date of manufacture when stored at room temperature in its original packaging.
Can I use this potting compound on metal surfaces?

Yes, you can certainly use it on a variety of substrates including metals and plastics. It offers excellent adhesion to many surfaces.
How long does it take for the epoxy to reach full cure?

At room temperature, after mixing A and B components thoroughly at a ratio of 1:1 by volume or weight, it takes about four hours for DP270 epoxy to reach handling strength and roughly twenty-four hours for full curing.

Product Description: 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Potting Compound DP270

When using a Duo-Pak (DP) size adhesive, rely on 3M dispensing equipment for convenient and accurate metering, mixing and dispensing.

Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Potting Compound DP270 is a rigid, two-part epoxy adhesive with a 1:1 mix ratio and 70 minute work life. It provides initial strength in about 3 hours with approximately 2,500 PSI at 72°F (22°C). Additionally, our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Potting Compound DP270 is low viscosity for easy dispensing and potting; and is non-corrosive to copper. It offers good resistance to medical sterilization and is available in black opaque and transparent amber.

Understanding Epoxy Adhesives

Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate and others. Epoxies are formulated as liquid reactive polymers that undergo a chemical reaction when mixed and then cure to form a solid plastic material. Once the two parts are mixed in their specified ratio, they begin the curing process and offer a limited working time where the adhesive can be applied and the two surfaces positioned as needed. This work life lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
