3M Cubitron II Cloth Belt 981F is specifically designed to address three common issues encountered when grinding and finishing soft metals such as aluminum. These problems include abrasive loading, edge-shelling, and operator fatigue.

To combat abrasive loading, a dry lubricant is integrated into the abrasive material. This allows the abrasive grain to remain free from metal coating, ensuring that the cutting surface of the mineral remains effective. Additionally, the waterproof backing of the belt enables the user to rinse both the workpiece and the cloth during use, in case the abrasive starts to clog.

To prevent edge-shelling, 3M Cubitron II Cloth Belt 981F features a durable Y-weight polyester cloth backing. This backing is specifically designed to withstand the stresses associated with working on gates, parting lines, and flashing in tight spaces. Unlike other cloth grinding belts, this belt also incorporates a proprietary resin system that enhances mineral adhesion, further reducing the chances of shelling.
