  3. What grit size is this diamond belt?

This particular product has a Micron Pattern of 18 with each particle measuring around M40 grade.

Excels at Light-Duty Applications on Contours

The 3M™ Flexible Diamond Belt 6454J is a versatile product that strikes a balance between strength and conformability. It conforms well to contours on hard to grind materials, making it best for lighter duty applications such as blending and finishing contours. This product may be used on thermal sprays, carbides, composites, chilled iron, non-ferrous metals, glass, and other hard-to-grind materials.

Built Tough, Finishes Fine

The diamond abrasive on 3M™ Flexible Diamond 6456J is adhered using a metal bond, which makes it the most tough compared to resin or vitrified bonds. The backing is the most flexible backing type of the 3M™ Flexible Diamond products, which helps the abrasive respond well to surface imperfections and contours.

Our Open Dot Pattern: What Does it Mean?

The open dot pattern on each 3M™ Flexible Diamond abrasive product means that the diamond mineral particles are adhered to the backing in a series of small dots. This design provides aggressive cutting action while also allowing consistent space for evacuation of swarf during sanding. This helps reduce loading and prolongs the life of the abrasive surface without sacrificing cut rates.

3M™ Flexible Diamond Belt 6454J is available in two open dot patterns for a range of uses. Pattern 18 is a small dot pattern equating to 25 pellets per inch. The B2 Pattern has medium dots with 17 pellets per inch and is designed to deliver an aggressive cutting action with improved coolant flow and increased swarf removal. Generally, the smaller dot patterns will be the least aggressive and produce finer finishes, whereas the larger dot patterns will be more aggressive for stock removal.
