Silicon Carbide and PSA Film Backing

At 3M, we engineer the 3M Microfinishing PSA Film Roll 468L using micron-graded silicon carbide. This synthetic mineral is highly regarded by industrial professionals for its fast cut and smooth finish. Silicon carbide is particularly effective for low-pressure applications like sanding and finishing during paint prep. While it may break down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a brighter finish.

The Film 468L features a thin 3 mil film backing that flexes to ensure a consistent finish over contours. This makes it an excellent choice for close tolerance applications. Additionally, the backing offers greater tear-resistance compared to similar paper products, making it ideal for high-production environments.

Our abrasive is designed to be used with a variety of tools, including orbital and random orbital platen sanders. It is available in a range of micron grades, allowing for complete multi-step sanding and finishing. The pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) provides easy attachment, securely holding the disc in place during use. It also removes cleanly from the backup pad (sold separately).

Provides Maximal Productivity

Abrasives perform better and last longer when the cutting surface is not clogged with dust. Our film roll is designed with space between the abrasive grains to help evacuate sawdust and other sanding debris. This prevents clogging of the cutting edge and allows the abrasive to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would typically hinder sanding ability. As a result, our film roll increases productivity and reduces material consumption.
