3M UV Activated Film 81010 is a UV-activated and curable film with semi-structural strength but handles like a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). Delivered between two polyester silicone release liners, this clear, slightly yellow film creates precise bonds with very little shrinkage while ensuring good bond line visual appearance. With the added benefits of good shear strength, high modulus, and a thin profile, 3M UV Activated Film 81010 is a robust alternative to traditional bonding methods.

  • BONDING, REIMAGINED: Stronger bonds than tapes; easier to apply than liquid adhesives; and activated with light, rather than heat
  • FAMILIAR FEEL: Processes and performs like a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) before UV activation, including the ability to die cut for thin precision bonding
  • CURING TIME: Achieves green strength within an hour and full bond at room temperature within 24 hours following UV activation
  • GOOD AESTHETICS: Bonds with very low shrinkage and with good bond line visual appearance
  • VARIOUS SUBSTRATES: Creates excellent bond strength on most medium and high surface energy materials
  • DUAL LINERED CONFIGURATION: Delivered on a clear, 38 μm PET front liner and clear, 50 μm anti-static PET back liner

PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What are the dimensions of the 3M™ UV Activated Film 81010?

The film comes in a roll measuring 220 mm in width and 200 meters in length, packaged as 1 roll per case.

  2. What does "UV Activated" mean for this film product?

UV Activated means the film requires ultraviolet light exposure to cure and develop its adhesive properties, making it ideal for applications where you need controlled activation timing.

  3. What types of applications is the 81010 film commonly used for?

This film is commonly used for graphic arts, sign making, and specialty printing applications where UV curing provides quick processing and excellent adhesion results.

  4. How should the 81010 film be stored before use?

The film should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve its properties until you're ready to activate it with UV light during your application process.

3M UV Activated Films and Tapes

3M UV Activated Films and Tapes represent an innovative adhesive solution that merges three distinct bonding technologies into a single, versatile product. These specialized materials deliver superior adhesive strength in comparison to conventional pressure-sensitive tapes, while simultaneously offering greater ease of application relative to traditional liquid-based adhesive systems. What sets them apart from heat-activated alternatives is their unique activation mechanism—they cure and harden when exposed to ultraviolet light rather than requiring elevated temperatures, making them particularly suitable for temperature-sensitive manufacturing environments.

Prior to ultraviolet activation, these films and tapes maintain remarkable stability while retaining a tacky surface at ambient room temperature conditions. This characteristic allows manufacturers to handle and position the materials with precision before the final bonding process occurs. The materials can be readily converted into custom-shaped components through die-cutting techniques, enabling designers to create parts tailored to specific application requirements.

Upon activation with ultraviolet light, the bonding process begins at room temperature, eliminating the need for external heat sources or pressure application. The adhesive achieves functional green strength—sufficient for handling—within approximately one hour of UV exposure. More substantial semi-structural bond strength develops within a 24-hour period, allowing for rapid progression through manufacturing workflows.
