PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is the 3M™ Utility Cloth Roll 314D?

The 3M™ Utility Cloth Roll 314D is a versatile abrasive that can be used for various purposes in many industries. It is composed of finely crushed aluminum oxide minerals bonded with resin on a J-weight cloth backing.

  2. What grit size does it come in?

The P280 J-weight grade comes in medium grit size, which makes it appropriate for cleaning surfaces and preparing them for painting or coating.

  3. How wide and long is each roll?

Each roll measures 1-1/2 inch x 50 yards (38mm x 45m), making it convenient to cut down to different sizes depending on your needs.

  4. How many rolls are included per case?

Each case includes five rolls of the product, so you have plenty of material to work with on multiple projects without running out too quickly.

  5. Can this utility cloth roll be used wet or dry?

Yes! This product can be used both wet and dry due to its durable composition. However, keep in mind that using water will help prolong its lifespan as metalworking materials tend to create loads when not lubricated enough.

Product Description:

The sanding strip roll is a versatile product that allows for tearing of the desired length for specific applications. The majority of grades have a light, J-weight cloth backing that provides the flexibility needed to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours. However, rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing suitable for more coarse sanding applications. The cloth remains durable even when bent or rolled, without tearing or shelling, but strips can be torn by hand when a smaller piece is needed, without compromising the sanding surface.

Aluminum Oxide:

Aluminum oxide is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. It can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
