PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What does PSA stand for in 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D?

Great question! The abbreviation PSA stands for "pressure sensitive adhesive." The pressure-sensitive adhesive on the back of this cloth disc makes it very easy to attach and remove.

  2. Can I use 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D to sand wood?

Absolutely! One reason our customers love this product is because it can be used on a variety of substrates, including wood, metals, fiberglass, and more.

  3. How many discs come in each case of the 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D mentioned above?

Each case contains ten discs that are all identical. There should be plenty here to take care of your sanding needs!

  4. What grit level is best suited to my requirements when I choose a Die Number with my purchase?

Different die numbers offer different levels of grit. In general, lower numbered dies have coarser grits whereas higher numbered dies tend to have finer grits. For example, purchasing Die number P240 gives you greater abrasion than if you chose Die Number P1200 because its abrasive particles are coarser.

The 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D

The 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D is a sanding disc that is ideal for heavy duty and high heat sanding applications. It features a cloth backing and a heat-resistant resin bond that make it a durable and reliable choice for various sanding tasks. The disc is designed to provide a fast and efficient method for deburring, blending, cleaning up, and finishing metal parts and surfaces of different sizes and shapes.

The disc is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) disc that is pressed onto a backup pad (also called a disc pad and sold separately) that is attached to a disc sander, random orbital sander, or stationary disc sander. This makes it easy to use and suitable for different types of sanders.

The 348D features an aluminum oxide abrasive, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges in use, whereas traditional abrasives such as garnet quickly wear down with use. Due to their fast cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention, they are widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications. Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys.

Heat-resistant resin is a sturdy binding agent that adheres the abrasive to the backing and maintains the stability of the bond even in conditions of high heat or pressure. This makes the 348D a reliable choice for heavy duty and high heat sanding applications.

Features:
  • Heat-resistant resin bond
  • Cloth backing
  • Aluminum oxide abrasive
  • Fast cut-rate
  • Self-fracturing mineral
