What is the 3M™ Screen Cloth Disc Hand Pad made of?
The 3M™ Screen Cloth Disc Hand Pad is made of a mesh screen and abrasive grains, allowing for effective sanding.
What surfaces can I use this product on?
This hand pad is suitable to use on all types of metals including aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel and stainless steel. It's also great for plastics and composites with gel coat.
How many pads come in each case?
There are ten (10) pads per case making it easy to stock up for projects or reordering supplies.
Is the disc compatible with backing pad attachment systems?
Yes! You can easily attach the 5-inch x 1-inch disc into Rotary Sanding tool/angle grinder attachments using its ROLOC quick disconnect attachment system.
Is there any benefit in terms of longevity when using these discs compared to regular sandpaper?
The long-lasting open-web construction resists loading while performing general purpose deburring and blending. Longer lasting abrasives may reduce costs associated with off-time replacing damaged discs or slow cut rate due to uncoated fibers which might grind further into the material creating extra work.
The 3M™ Screen Cloth Disc Hand Pad is the perfect accessory for 3M™ Screen Cloth Discs. The discs come in die numbers 500GC (5" diameter with 2 tabs), 600JR (6" diameter with 2 tabs), and 800JM (8" diameter with 2 tabs) (sold separately). Mineral is adhered to both sides of the screen cloth discs, so when one side wears down, the other can be used. While operators typically use these discs dry during hand sanding, the screen is water-resistant and may be used with a lubricant if necessary.
Each disc features two tabs, and the holder pad has two "tacks" designed for these tabs. Operators simply pierce the tabs on the disc with the tacks on the hand pad to secure the disc in place. This easy and convenient attachment system eliminates the need for adhesive, which has two key benefits. First, it helps minimize the mess that adhesive can sometimes cause. Second, as one side of the disc is not sacrificed for adhesive, both sides may be used and the disc is put to optimal use.A Remedy for Small Surface Imperfections
When eliminating surface imperfections, evenly-applied pressure and consistent finishes tend to be top concerns. With these goals in mind, 3M created the 3M™ Screen Cloth Disc Hand Pad. This abrasive accessory helps operators apply even pressure to their 3M™ screen cloth discs and, consequently, the substrate. With a hand strap attached to the back of the pad, the accessory is easy to use and provides access to workpiece areas that may be hard to reach with machines.
The hand pad is available in soft and medium densities. A medium density pad is firmer – a good match for highlighting or leveling the surface to reveal high and low spots. A soft density pad is a good match for light scuffing of the substrate.
Prior to applying primer or paint, ridding the substrate of small imperfections is no easy task. 3M knows that operators value a clean, polished look. The 3M™ Screen Cloth Disc Hand Pad was engineered to help them get there.
