Use Wet or Dry

3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Disc 281W is a versatile cloth product that can be used wet or dry for finishing metal and gel coats. When used with water, it prevents loading of the abrasive during the finishing process, preventing dust and debris from clogging the abrasive and dulling the mineral. This makes it ideal for use on e-coat primer and in the marine industry for sanding old finishes, fine feather edging, and surface work.

The cloth disc is made with aluminum oxide mineral, which is known for its fast cut-rate and long life. It is tough and durable, self-fracturing to expose fresh cutting edges. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of materials in both metalworking and the marine/fiberglass markets.

The Benefits of Cloth-Backed Discs

3M™ Wetordry™ products are engineered with a waterproof cloth backing, which supports both wet and dry applications. Wet applications tend to produce a significant amount of dust, clogging the abrasive points and creating an inferior work environment. However, sanding with water can rinse dust away from the workpiece and abrasive surface, minimizing these effects.

Having a water-resistant abrasive can be useful when finishing materials like paint and primer, which tend to generate a lot of debris. Pairing 3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth 281W with water can keep both the abrasive and workpiece clean and produce the soft finish that industrial professionals desire.
