PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is the 10 micron specification on this wheel?

The 10 micron rating refers to the grit size of the diamond abrasive particles bonded to the wheel. This means it's designed for fine polishing applications and will produce a smooth, high-quality finish on your workpiece.

  2. Can I use this wheel on different types of materials?

Yes! The 3M Trizact Diamond Polishing Wheel is versatile and works well on a variety of materials including ceramics, composites, glass, and engineered stone. It's an excellent choice for multiple applications across different industries.

  3. How long does this wheel typically last before needing replacement?

Wheel life depends on your specific application, material hardness, and how much pressure you apply during polishing. However, the Trizact technology is engineered for excellent durability and extended performance compared to conventional abrasives.

  4. What does the 1A8 designation mean?

The 1A8 refers to the wheel's shape and bond type. It's a specialized designation that indicates this is a premium wheel designed specifically for precision polishing applications with consistent performance.

  5. Is this a single wheel or does the case contain multiple wheels?

This is a single wheel per case, so you're getting one 3 inch diameter wheel with the specifications listed. When you need additional wheels, you can easily reorder using the same product number for consistency.

Breakthrough Technology Automates Tool Polishing

3M has developed an innovative bonding technology that has been integrated into the 3M™ Trizact™ Diamond Polishing Wheel 685DC. This advanced "Trizact bond" technology delivers exceptional surface finishing results while preventing any distortion to tool profiles or cutting edges, all while preserving a consistently polished surface. Engineered with the primary application of polishing the flutes found in drills and endmills, the 3M™ Trizact™ Diamond Polishing Wheel 685DC merges the beneficial properties of both traditional resin-bonded diamond wheels and modern non-woven abrasive wheels. This hybrid approach enables operators to achieve efficient polishing operations while retaining adequate structural integrity for truing and dressing procedures, as well as the ability to maintain precision when working with intricate tool geometries.

Loaded With Diamond

The wheel features a uniform distribution of diamond particles throughout its entire structure. Throughout the operational life of the wheel, as the bonding material gradually wears away, new sharp diamond crystals are continuously revealed and become available to the workpiece. This self-renewing cutting action ensures remarkably consistent and predictable performance characteristics, which directly translates into enhanced productivity, a significant reduction in rejected parts and rework requirements, and an overall improvement in the quality and precision of finished components.

Designed for Automated Truing and Dressing

Although the 685DC wheel can be operated with handheld portable tools when necessary, it has been specifically engineered for implementation on CNC grinding machines, where it integrates efficiently into established manufacturing workflows and production systems without requiring significant process modifications.

More Perfect Finishes Function Better

The practice of polishing round cutting tools to achieve a mirror-like finish can substantially extend tool longevity and enhance the overall quality of machined parts. Superior surface finishes enable tools to maintain lower operating temperatures and preserve their sharpness for longer periods during use. When the flute area of drills and endmills achieves a finer surface finish, chips that are cut or removed from the workpiece surface can evacuate much more readily with substantially reduced friction and heat generation. This improved chip evacuation contributes to superior surface quality in the finished workpiece and extends the serviceable life of the cutting tool.
