PRODUCT FAQ
-
What grit level is this flap disc, and what type of work is it best for?
This is a 60+ grit flap disc, which makes it ideal for medium grinding and blending applications. It's perfect for removing rust, paint, and welds, or for general surface preparation work where you need a balance between aggressive material removal and a decent finish.
-
What does "T29-Conical" mean, and why does it matter?
T29 refers to the backing plate design that's laminated for extra durability, and "Conical" describes the shape of the flap disc, which provides better contact with curved or contoured surfaces. This design helps you work more efficiently on uneven work pieces and reduces operator fatigue.
-
Can I use this with a quick change system, and what does that mean?
Yes! The quick change feature means you can swap out discs in seconds without tools—just twist off the old disc and twist on the new one. This saves you time between jobs and keeps you productive, which is why so many professionals prefer quick change systems.
-
How many discs come in each case, and what's the disc diameter and arbor size?
Each case contains 10 discs. The disc diameter is 5 inches, and the arbor hole is 5/8 in-11, which is a standard size that fits most angle grinders with quick change backing plates.
The 3M Cubitron 3 Flap Disc 1169F represents an advanced abrasive solution engineered to deliver exceptional performance across a wide spectrum of grinding and finishing applications. This versatile disc combines the inherent advantages of flap disc technology—including superior conformability to workpiece contours and user-friendly operation—with significantly reduced risk of surface gouging, making it an ideal choice for both precision work and heavy-duty industrial applications.
Built with a durable polyester backing and featuring 3M's proprietary Precision-Shaped Grain technology that has been re-engineered with curved sides, the 1169F disc demonstrates outstanding material removal capabilities. When compared to earlier generations, this disc removes up to 49% more total material than the 3M Cubitron II Flap Disc 969F in 40+ grade, and up to 66% more material than the standard 3M Flap Disc 769F in 40+ grade. These performance improvements make it particularly well-suited for medium to high-pressure grinding operations, including beveling, weld grinding, deburring, and work on complex edges and contours.
The innovative curved-side grain design is engineered to continually fracture into microscopic sharp points during use, allowing the disc to slice cleanly through metal surfaces rather than plowing through the substrate as traditional abrasives do. This intelligent fracturing mechanism contributes to the disc's exceptional longevity and its ability to maintain a consistently high cut rate throughout its operational life, maximizing productivity and reducing downtime.
Recommended Applications- Weld grinding
- Light grinding operations
- Beveling
- Deburring
- Blending and feathering
- General finishing
- Surface preparation
- Scale removal
- Weld spatter removal
- Work on edges and contoured surfaces
A significant benefit of the 3M Cubitron 3 Flap Disc 1169F is its ability to combine grinding and finishing operations into a single step under typical working conditions. The disc generates a surface finish that is characteristically one grade finer than what a conventional fiber disc of equivalent grade would produce. While fiber discs may initially cut faster, the 1169F eliminates the need for disc changes and multiple processing steps, resulting in meaningful time savings, improved workflow efficiency, and reduced labor costs throughout the grinding operation.
